According to Orange County Vector Control, dead birds infected with the virus have been found in Cypress, Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, and Tustin, and Garden Grove has tested positive for West Nile infected mosquitoes. Although the West Nile virus threat in Orange County is low at the moment, residents are reminded to be vigilant. Residents are advised not to touch any dead bird they come across with and instead, the carcass should be placed in a plastic bag and kept under a cool shade. They are then requested to call the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District (OCMVCD) Dead Bird Hotline at (714) 971-2421, extension 117 or email: wnsurv@ocvector.org with their phone number and coordinate a pick-up for proper disposal.
